The comfort of detail

This renovation was driven by a desire to bring warmth, personality, and cohesion to the kitchen – aligning with the client's refined and welcoming interior style.

Inspired by an American Modern Heritage aesthetic, the design merges classic detailing with modern minimalism to create a timeless, approachable space. Steel-framed doors with slim profiles introduce a subtle industrial layer, adding interest while maintaining a light, refined presence.

A carefully chosen mix of soft white cabinetry and warm timber veneer brings depth and contrast to the space. The palette of neutrals, layered with wood tones and warm light, creates a tactile, grounded atmosphere with a timeless sensibility.

Retaining much of the existing footprint, the kitchen was enhanced through thoughtful layout adjustments and subtle upgrades that improved usability while preserving flow. Seating at the island adds a casual gathering point, while thoughtful repositioning of key elements – like the scullery sink – keeps the space feeling clean and considered.

Natural materials, refined joinery, and curated styling work together to elevate the sense of craftsmanship throughout. Behind glass-fronted cabinets, personal touches and layered decor add quiet character without overwhelming the kitchen’s calm, contemporary tone.

This design was awarded Highly Commended at the 2025 TIDA New Zealand Kitchen Awards.
